Ways to Celebrate Advent

Three Ways you can Celebrate Advent at Home:
1. Keep up with this devotional! Read the Scriptures out loud. Pray the prayers.
If you live with others, discuss the content. If you have young children, consider reading the prayers line-by-line so that they can echo them.
Þ Find a consistent time and place—kind of like a daily date or appointment with God. Maybe it's a certain chair with your morning coffee; maybe it's the dinner table; or maybe it's the office break room just before lunch... just take some time.
2. 'Build' the Nativity Set each week
If you have a nativity set, for this year, don't put it out all at once.
Instead, add a piece each week as we discuss the characters. Our basic calendar looks like this:

3. Light Candles.
Advent is traditionally a season of remembering when Jesus—the light of the world—physically arrived on our earth. Light and darkness are common themes and images for this time. You can light a single candle with every devotion or you can set up several candles and light more of them each week to SHOW the movement towards Christmas. This is partially where we get the tradition for Advent Wreaths. With multiple candles, notice how the light grows brighter as Christmas grows closer. And notice, too, that darkness is cast away with the coming of Christ!
“And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.”
 ~John 1:5
